In the last few years, taking care of one’s mind and body has become more important than ever. But as many employees worked from home, this task grew increasingly more difficult. At One Two Pru, workplace wellness has always been among our top priorities, and with countless tenants back in the building, it’s been our mission to instill a sense of balance and well-being into their lives. Now, with Fitness Director, Dawn Perres at the helm, our tenants can rest assured they’ll achieve total mind-body wellness in no time. To learn more about her training sessions at One Two Pru’s Health Club and just how she’s helping clients reach their goals on a daily basis, we sat down with Dawn and got timeless insights from the expert herself. 

Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got into the wellness industry?

I studied Exercise Physiology at the University of Illinois and knew I wanted to help people achieve their fitness goals and live healthier lives. I’ve been in the industry for 14 years,  in both commercial and corporate settings.

Why did you decide to team up with One Two Pru?

I love that Sterling Bay and One Two Pru are so passionate about giving their tenants an exceptional experience and I wanted to be a part of that. The view from the Health Club is not too shabby either!

What does a day in the life look like for you at One Two Pru? 

No two days are the same! I meet new members and assist them as they need it, in addition to training clients and teaching a yoga class on Tuesday. I also work with my colleagues to come up with ways to bring the best fitness and wellness services to One Two Pru tenants.

Can you explain your process of guiding tenants on their fitness journeys?

We offer all new members a Program Evaluation in which we discuss their current fitness routine, goals and what they hope to gain as a fitness center member. Members decide from there if they would like guided workouts with a trainer or just some tips and tricks. I meet with clients as often as four times per week, with some more sporadically for a little boost to their routine.

What happens in a typical session? 

Strength is the focus of most training sessions and each program is tailored to each individual client. I love functional training and making sure my clients feel strong and confident in their daily lives.

How would you characterize the work-life balance of tenants at One Two Pru? 

All of the tenants I have met so far have a great outlook on work-life balance. One Two Pru makes it easy for tenants to take time for themselves with the Health Club, chic common areas and awesome Rooftop Deck. There are so many ways to step away from work and destress when necessary.

Why do you think corporate wellness is so important?

I think it’s so important that employers and buildings make it a priority to provide their employees and tenants with easy access to health and wellness services. Everyone has busy schedules so making these services convenient and available can alleviate a lot of stress. Promoting a healthy employee culture can have a great impact on employee satisfaction and productivity as well!

What’s your motto?

In all areas of wellness, prioritize consistency over everything else.

Favorite piece of equipment in One Two Pru’s Health Club?

Can I choose two? I love the TRX because of its versatility and I love the Smith machine because… SQUATS! 

If you could give one piece of advice to someone looking to optimize their health, what would that be?

Set small goals for yourself and if you ever get off track, get right back on!
